Created on October 7, 1960, the Catholic University of Pelotas is the oldest higher education institution in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. Conceived by Dom Antônio Zattera, the Católica – as it is affectionately called – was born and remains as a community institution.

By forming leaders committed to working towards social and human development, UCPel has become a reference in the southern region of the state. All the knowledge developed within the institution aims to contribute to the surrounding communities.

As it is a community institution, it is focused primarily on educational actions of a social nature. Thus, as it is non-profit, it allocates part of its income to education and social assistance activities, such as scholarships, free assistance in hospitals, clinics, legal assistance, among other services.
