Academic mobility allows international experience at the most diverse levels

Knowing new cultures, experiencing day to day in a new country, developing language skills and further qualifying the curriculum are some of the many benefits of investing in academic mobility. The experience of studying abroad provides not only international experience, but allows students to place themselves competitively in the labor market. As globalization increasingly demands the development of international perspectives and intercultural competences, the experience of academic mobility contributes to an even more solid higher education and, therefore, is sought by students of different ages and levels of education.

Academic mobility, also called academic exchange, can happen through institutional partnerships between universities. In this modality, students take one or two semesters of their regular undergraduate or graduate courses abroad and vice versa, generally taking advantage of the credits taken in their regular grade.

It is the responsibility of universities to establish agreements, in addition to monitoring and supporting students who are interested in going abroad (the so-called out – outgoing mobility). In addition, they integrate international students (mobility in – incoming mobility) through actions that promote relations between the academic community and the international community.

Another mobility alternative involves international courses, offered by different institutions of varying lengths. This is also a possibility for those seeking an international immersion, but not necessarily during the undergraduate or graduate course.

Such movements strengthen the internationalization of higher education institutions. Both the arrival and permanence of international students on campus, as well as the movement of students abroad, promote exchanges of experience, contact with new cultures and approximation of different world views. All this ensures that the day-to-day life of Universities is full of learning and prepares students for an increasingly global and internationalized market.

If you would like to participate in an exchange program at one of COMUNG’s institutions, please contact the international office of the university of interest .
