The home of FIDENE / UNIJUÍ is located in northwestern Rio Grande do Sul, a culturally rich place with a high potential for development. The area of ​​operation of FIDENE / UNIJUÍ covers 53 municipalities in the State, which comprise the Regional Development Councils of the Northwest Colonial, Granary and Northwest Border, comprising a population of approximately 656 thousand people.

UNIJUÍ’s pioneering trajectory is marked by a commitment to regional reality, a principle inherited from the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, who together with regional leaders sought alternatives for the offer of Higher Education in the region. The installation of the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Ijuí (FFSL), in 1957, consolidated the commitment of the founding group. In 1969, by means of a public deed, FFSL’s assets were transferred to the Foundation for Integration, Development and Education of the Northwest of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FIDENE), which today maintains UNIJUÍ, recognized as a University in 1985; the Director Pestana Anthropological Museum (DPAM); the Francisco de Assis Basic Education Center (FABE); and the Radio Educativa Unijuí (Unijuí FM).

With regard to its core activity, UNIJUÍ maintains sixty undergraduate courses on its four campuses, of which fifty-four are in-person and sixteen are in distance learning. In the stricto sensu graduate program, it has seven master’s courses and four doctoral courses, all authorized by CAPES. Still, in the area of ​​education, it offers lato sensu postgraduate courses and professional qualification, and in 2012 it started offering specialization courses in distance learning.

We seek to train professionals with technical excellence and critical social awareness, to produce and disseminate knowledge, contributing to the development of the region with a view to consolidating itself as a community, non-state, philanthropic public university, referenced by the excellence of its actions and integrated into the process of development of the community. region in which it operates.
